Supercross 2023 kicks off now! Well, that's what RC says and I gotta say, it's about time SX Survivor is going to be heating up. A pretty un-eventful Daytona is likely the last of it's kind as we start to hit the home stretch. Only 21% of teams remain!
The field has suddenly shifted as we roll into Indianapolis with some riders done for the season, others out injured but hoping to return, the strategy (or luck) will likely shape the game in the final stretch.
Justin Cooper - Parked for the season!
All but three of the remaining teams snagged a Justin Cooper pick while he was still racing and Cooper's 450 run went well finishing inside the top 10 every time. A nice 0% elimination rating for the races he competed in surely rewarded those who picked the rookie. If Ferrandis were to go out again, does Star call up JCoop to fill in giving those 3 teams who didn't select him a lifeline?
RJ Hampshire - One and done?!
Coming in there was a chance that Daytona would be the only time we see RJ Hampshire on a 450 and three teams made the gutsy decision to hire him. He rewarded them with a top 10 finish and the ability to save the full-time 450 guys for another weekend. Sounds like we may see RJ line up again in Indy, but can he keep it on two wheels two weekends in a row and get another top 10?
Joey Savatgy - UH OH!
Starting off the year stringing top 10 finishes together was the Rick Ware Racing pilot Joey Savatgy. Then things got a little dicey before he eventually was too banged up to line up. The momentum came to a screeching halt and Savatgy is now parked for the rest of the Supercross season. FIFTY PERCENT of the remaining teams never used their Savatgy pick. Something tells me that is going to really increase the stress level for half the field.
Dylan Ferrandis - Almost back?
Well, well, well... 10 of the 16 teams still have Ferrandis available and I bet they would love to see the speedy Frenchman get his Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing 450 back in the top 10 in main events. Risky pick after he started the season so strongly.
Does AC return soon and give the 7 teams with him available hope? Will Colt Nichols or Dean Wilson turn into steady top 10 guys with the field depleted? All I know is many of the "sure thing" picks are steadily nearing extinction and blood pressures are rising faster than the front of a man's sweat pants at a strip club.
There were ZERO eliminations at the always challenging Daytona. Check out the full results below.
FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON, this will be the link to your 450 SX Survivor Entries! Bookmark it, screenshot it, save it, etc. It won't be a dynamic link each week anymore. HOWEVER, ENSURE YOU ARE SELECTING THE CORRECT ROUND FROM THE DROP DOWN!
